| Basal squamules persistent, 1–2 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., rounded, lobed, with crenate margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1–4 cm tall, 1–2 mm diam., simple, scyphiferous; base of podetia warted to scaly, becoming ecorticate and coarsely granular-sorediate and occasionally minutely squamulose; scyphi broad, to 8 mm diam., with or without marginal scyphi, interior closed and coarsely granular-sorediate. Apothecia on margins of scyphi, 0.5–1.5 mm diam., convex, pedicellate, brown; rare in Australian specimens. CHEMISTRY: K-, or rarely K+ weak yellow, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids, rarely with atranorin (major). | ||
| This cosmopolitan species occurs in W.A., S.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas., and also on Heard Is. and Macquarie Is.; grows on soil. | ||
